Arua City has officially launched the national celebrations for World Tourism Day 2025, set to take place on September 27th under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” This year’s theme emphasizes the vital role of tourism in driving sustainable development and positive change across communities.


The launch, held at Arua City Council, was officiated by city leadership in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism.


Arua City Town Clerk, Mr. Kyasanku David, thanked the Ministry of Tourism for choosing Arua City as host, saying the event will provide a platform to showcase the region’s unique attractions. He emphasized that beyond promoting tourism, the celebrations will open up business opportunities for the local population.

“World Tourism Day will showcase the tourism attractions in the West Nile region while offering business opportunities for our people. I urge the entire nation to visit Arua, the mighty City of Opportunities,” Mr. Kyasanku remarked.

“We want the entire region to come together and take part in the celebrations. This is a chance to not only promote tourism but also celebrate our culture, innovation, and community spirit,” Mayor Nyakua said.

Line-Up of Activities.

The celebrations will kick off on 25th September with school engagements and run until 28th September, concluding with the highly anticipated Explore West Nile Experience.

Key activities include:

Explore West Nile: Showcasing the region’s cultural diversity and natural attractions.

Exhibitions: Promoting local content and innovations.

Tourism Games: Fun activities to encourage community participation.

School Competitions to engage young learners in tourism awareness.

Festivals: Celebrating West Nile’s vibrant culture and heritage.

Health Camp: Offering medical services and health awareness.

Beer Run: A fun event aimed at promoting tourism in an entertaining way.

The event is expected to draw over 4,000 guests from across Uganda and beyond, providing a significant boost to the local economy while opening new investment opportunities in tourism and related sectors.

Arua City is gearing up to welcome visitors to what is expected to be one of the most exciting and impactful World Tourism Day celebrations in Uganda’s history.
