Soroti, Uganda – Monday, February 10, 2025Police in Soroti have arrested Suzan Vivian Okedi, the wife of the director of Jozan Nursery and Primary School, in connection with the suspected ritual killing of 5-year-old Joan Faith Apio.
The East Kyoga Region Police Commander (RPC), Damalie Nachuha, confirmed Okedi’s arrest on Monday, adding that her brother was also taken into custody at the school premises.
Their arrests bring the total number of suspects in police custody to five as investigations into the shocking murder intensify.Jozan Nursery and Primary School has since been closed and sealed off by authorities, who believe crucial evidence related to the crime may be found within the institution.
Apio’s gruesome murder last week sent shockwaves through the Soroti community, prompting swift police action.
Investigators are now focusing on uncovering the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and identifying all those involved.
“The school remains a key part of our investigations, and we are following every lead to ensure justice for the victim,” RPC Nachuha stated.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as they continue gathering evidence and interrogating the suspects.
