The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Steven Kazimba Mugalu, has led a thanksgiving prayer service at Namugongo Anglican Church as family members, church leaders and dignitaries gathered to remember the late former Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo.

The solemn service drew worshippers from across the country, united in reflection and gratitude for the life and legacy of one of Uganda’s most respected church leaders.

Among those present were former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, human rights defender Livingstone Ssewanyana, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, Robert Sserwanga representing the Buganda Kingdom, members of the Nkoyoyo family and other faithful.In his sermon, Archbishop Kazimba urged Christians to draw inspiration from Archbishop Nkoyoyo’s commitment to faith, unity and service to humanity.

Born in 1937, Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo served as Archbishop of the Church of Uganda from 1995 to 2004.

During his tenure, he was widely recognised for promoting interfaith dialogue, strengthening church institutions and encouraging the Church’s engagement in national development and reconciliation efforts.Beyond his ecclesiastical leadership, Nkoyoyo also served the country in diplomatic and public roles, reflecting a lifelong commitment to public service.

Family members described him as a devoted Christian, a loving father and a mentor who valued integrity and service above personal gain.They thanked the Church of Uganda and the nation for continuing to honour his memory.Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo died on January 5, 2024, at the age of 86.
