Uganda has joined the rest of the world in commemorating 2026, with national celebrations held at . The event brought together government leaders, women’s groups, security forces, development partners, and members of the public to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women to national development.
The ceremony was presided over by the Vice President, , who attended as the chief guest on behalf of President . The celebrations were held under the national theme: “Scaling up investment to accelerate access to justice for women and girls across Uganda.”

The theme highlights the need to strengthen systems that protect women’s rights and ensure women and girls can access justice and protection when their rights are violated. The national event also served as a platform to reflect on progress made in advancing gender equality while addressing the challenges that women continue to face.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was an all-women parade drawn from the country’s security forces, showcasing female officers from different security agencies.
The parade demonstrated the growing role of women in national service and leadership across the country.The celebrations also featured exhibition stalls by women entrepreneurs, where participants showcased locally made products, innovations, and businesses aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment.
Vice President Alupo toured the exhibition area and interacted with several exhibitors during the event.President Museveni did not attend the Kololo celebrations as he was in , , where he participated in the .International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, is a global day dedicated to recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while also calling for accelerated action toward gender equality worldwide.
