Uganda Human Rights commission Arua branch with funding from European Union has embarked on community sensitizing and awareness of people of concerns and host communities across west Nile sub region about human right and some factors hindering human rights.
During the capacity building training of local leaders and community engagement through the Baraza in Rhino camp Imvepi settlements in Terego district on Wednesday 07th/12/2022 and Thursday 08th/12/2022.
The legal officer of Uganda Human Right commission Arua branch, Mr. Bosco Okurot explained that many People of concerns and host community don’t understand human Rights violation hence the reason some of them tends to take law in their hands.
He further stressed that many do assume that it is there right to do wrong things’ ’Human Rights is the Right to do good things only’’ says Bosco.
In his statement he appealed to the People of Concern to desist from buying land because it is not allow in Uganda as per the constitution

Joseph Lumana, a refugees, from Ofua block A in Rhino camp appreciated the management of Uganda Human Rights commission for the initiative of sanitizing them about Human rights, according to him most of them are in dilemma that is reason of so many violence in Refugees settlements.

Uganda continues to host the largest refugees population in Africa with over 1.4 million refugees displaced by conflicts in neighboring countries.
The South Sudan refugees crisis has taken a heavy toll on Uganda‘s economy, environment and livelihood opportunities.
West Nile sub region alone is currently hosting 778,348 refugees.
Hellen Ato, refugees, residing in Sibili, Siripi village Rhino camp similarly applauded the management Uganda Human Right commission for empowering them on Human Rights.

Article 52[2] of 1995 constitution lays down the following functions of the commission;-To investigate, at its own initiative or a complaints made by any person or group of persons against the violation of Human Right, to visit Jails, prisons, and replaces detention or related facilities with view of assessing and inspecting conditions of inmates and make recommendations among others.
