Most of the candidates who sat the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination in Arua City under the new secondary school curriculum passed and qualified for certificates.
Administrators at some of the schools visited by Daily West Nile attribute their performance to trainings received on the new curriculum.
At Mvara Secondary School, 225 candidates out of 227 registered passed in result one, while 2 of the candidates who sat on protest passed in result two.
The school Head Teacher, Eliakim Matua, cites the capacity building of teachers on the new curriculum as the main factor for the performance.
"This was really God's favour because when it came to second term (regional mock), the result was generally poor across West Nile. But now when UNEB did training for our teachers, and when were came back we had to do a lot of discussions" he expressed.
A total of 51 candidates were registered for the examination at Manibe Secondary School and all of them passed in result one.
Hogla Ajidiru, the school Head Teacher, says teamwork among staff and support from stakeholders contributed to the result.
"We kept on praying to God with confidence, teamwork that the staff, administrators and everybody within the school community gave support to this" the Head Teacher stated.
Similarly, all the 42 candidates registered for this examination at St. Peter's Seed Secondary School passed.
The school Head Teacher, Bernard Angua, notes that the submission of continuous assessments and project works led to the result.
"As a school, we worked tooth and nail to ensure that we submitted all what is required by UNEB" he said.
This is the first cohort of candidates to sit the examination under the new curriculum.
Nationally, a total of 359,417 candidates were registered, comprising 177,133 (49.3%) males and 182,284 (50.7%) females, according to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
