Two suspected armed robbers have been killed by an angry mob in Arua City after an alleged attempted robbery targeting a Congolese gold dealer in Etori.

The incident happened on Thursday after the suspects reportedly trailed the businessman as he returned from Arua City centre, where he had allegedly sold gold.

According to preliminary reports, the suspects, who were travelling on a motorcycle, allegedly opened fire at the motorcycle carrying the gold dealer.

The shooting reportedly left the boda boda rider with a gunshot wound to the leg, attracting the attention of residents who pursued and cornered the suspects in Kawua Cell, Ayivu West Division.

The suspects were subsequently beaten to death before their bodies and the motorcycle they were travelling on were set ablaze.

Police have condemned the incident and cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

Authorities have urged residents to report suspected criminal activities to security agencies and allow law enforcement officers to investigate and handle suspects in accordance with the law.
