The Uganda Episcopal Conference through its official media publication has confirmed this afternoon the death of Soroti Catholic Diocese Bishop Emeritus, Erasmus Wandera. 

Bishop Emeritus, Erasmus Wandera succumbed to death at the age of 92, from Mbale city as of today. The official announcement reads as follows;

On this Feast Of The Immaculate Conception Of Blessed Virgin Mary, we have just received the sad news of the death of Rt. Rev. Erasmus Desderius Wandera, Bishop Emeritus of Soroti. 

He passed on this morning at 6:00 a.m. at his residence in Mbale. Further details regarding his funeral will be communicated later. May his soul rest in eternal peace!

Rt. Rev.Erasmus Desiderius Wandera, has been the Bishop Emeritus of Soroti Diocese'. He is the first retired Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese.

Rt. Rev. Erasmus D. Wandera, was born at Osia in Tororo (Archdiocese of Tororo) on 16th April 1930 and was ordained priest on 27th December 1956. 

He was appointed first Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese on 29th November 1980, and consecrated Bishop on 29th March 1981. 

He retired and was succeeded by Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Obbo, A.J. on 6th October 2007.  Bishop Emeritus Wandera has been a resident at Mbale Town from were he died.

His death came through to the public this afternoon as of Thursday 8/12/2022 through the official announcement by the Uganda Episcopal conference. 

The Uganda Episcopal Conference is the Assembly of the Catholic Hierarchy in Uganda, constituted with the approval of the Holy See, through which Bishops express their collegial responsibility through collective action, to assure the progress of the Church and coordination of its social and pastoral ministry. It is headed by a Chairman elected every four years. He is assisted by an Executive Board, also chosen every four years, composed of six Chairmen of various Commissions. The Episcopal Conference of Uganda was founded in 1960.
