Obongi, Uganda – October 17, 2025
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced that Obongi District will soon be connected to the national electricity grid, ending years of power scarcity in the area.
While addressing supporters at a campaign rally held at Lionga Booma Grounds in Obongi District, the NRM presidential candidate revealed that the government has secured funding from the World Bank to extend electricity to the district.
“Obongi has been one of only two districts in Uganda without electricity, but I am glad to inform you that this challenge has been resolved,” President Museveni said. “Funds are already available, and the project is now in the procurement stage. Implementation will commence soon.”
The development is expected to boost economic activity, improve service delivery, and enhance livelihoods across the district once completed. Local leaders and residents welcomed the announcement, describing it as a major milestone in the area’s development journey.
The electricity extension project is part of the government’s broader initiative to ensure universal access to power and support socio-economic transformation across Uganda.
