In a recent development that underscores the importance of intelligence-led operations, a joint team of police officers, led by the GISO of Midia Subcounty in Koboko, in collaboration with local LCs (Local Councils), conducted a successful operation in Nyerwa village, Midia sub county, Koboko District on October 25th, 2023. The operation resulted in the recovery of firearms and the arrest of several individuals.

The intelligence-led operation was carried out on October 25th, 2023, with key law enforcement agencies in Koboko District who came together to conduct a meticulous search for illegal firearms in Nyerwa village, Midia sub-county. The joint operation involved police officers, the GISO of Midia Subcounty, and local LCs, and it resulted in a significant breakthrough - the recovery of firearms and the arrest of individuals involved in the case.

The operation centered around a property belonging to Zubeda Gisima, a 30-year-old Kakwa businesswoman residing in Nyerwa village, Midia sub-county, Koboko District.

Intelligence suggested that firearms might be present at her premises, prompting the authorities to cordon off the area and conduct a thorough search.

During the search, investigators focused their attention on a rental room occupied by a man known only as Ivan. It was revealed that Ivan had stayed at the location for two weeks before mysteriously disappearing to an unknown destination.

The search of Ivan's room uncovered several items of concern, including a pistol (No.T6115138) without a magazine, seventy-eight live ammunitions for an SMG Rifle, a green plastic army bottle (known as 'kibuyi'), and six MTN SIM cards.

Authorities wasted no time in apprehending the individuals linked to the case. Zubeda Gisima, the landlady of the property, and a man named Chandiga Francis, who acted as the intermediary between Ivan and the landlord, were taken into custody to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The recovered exhibits, which are crucial pieces of evidence in this case, are currently being held at Koboko Central Police Station. The investigation is being conducted under the reference number Koboko SD ref 33/25/10/2023.

The successful operation was led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Angucia Josephine, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the West Nile Region. The combined efforts of the police, the GISO, and the local LCs in Koboko District highlight the importance of cooperation between different agencies in maintaining law and order within the community.

While this operation is a significant step towards improving safety in the region, it also raises concerns about the presence of illegal firearms and the need for continued efforts to curb their circulation. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the source and purpose of these weapons.

The joint operation in Koboko District serves as a reminder of the critical role that intelligence-led initiatives play in maintaining peace and security within our communities. It also highlights the diligence and commitment of law enforcement agencies in tackling the challenges posed by illegal firearms. The community, meanwhile, awaits further developments as the investigation unfolds, hoping for a safer and more secure environment.
