Kampala, Uganda – June 7, 2025
Top National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Kampala have unanimously endorsed Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), ahead of the highly anticipated internal party elections.
The endorsement was announced during a special consultative meeting held in Kampala, attended by senior party leaders, district chairpersons, and grassroots mobilizers from across the capital city.
NRM Kampala Chairperson and Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjati Minsa Kabanda, said the decision to back Speaker Among was based on her proven leadership, loyalty to the party, and her efforts to strengthen NRM structures at both the national and grassroots levels.
> “We believe in her integrity, mobilization capacity, and unwavering commitment to the NRM ideology. Her presence on the CEC will not only empower women in leadership but also give Kampala a stronger voice at the top,” Kabanda noted.
Speaker Anita Among, who is also the Bukedea District Woman MP, is seeking to replace Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, who has held the post for several terms. The endorsement from Kampala gives her significant momentum in the race as other regions prepare for similar consultations.
In her brief remarks, Speaker Among expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized her commitment to inclusivity, unity, and the empowerment of all NRM cadres, especially women and youth.
> “This endorsement renews my resolve to serve the party with diligence and humility. I pledge to continue championing the voices of the voiceless and defending the core values of our movement,” she said.
The NRM CEC is the party’s top policy-making body and plays a key role in shaping the party’s direction, especially ahead of the 2026 general elections. The endorsement of key figures like Speaker Among is seen as part of broader efforts to consolidate unity and revitalize the ruling party’s leadership.
NRM electoral activities are currently ongoing countrywide, with various positions being contested ahead of the party’s National Delegates Conference later this year.
