The Network for Active Citizens (NAC) has secured a commitment from the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda to host the next National Youth Parliament sitting in the chambers of Parliament.
The commitment followed an engagement between the Deputy Speaker and a delegation of young people from NAC and the Danish Network for Local Youth Councils (NAU), who are collaborating to strengthen youth leadership and participation in governance through community youth parliaments.
The initiative seeks to provide young people with platforms to raise issues affecting their communities, participate in decision-making and influence development priorities at both local and national levels.
The delegation described the commitment as a significant step towards promoting youth representation, noting that holding the sitting in Parliament would give young people an opportunity to engage with the country's legislative institution.
The Deputy Speaker welcomed the initiative and pledged support, recognising its potential to nurture future leaders and strengthen youth participation in governance.
Omoro County Member of Parliament Andrew Oulanyah and Arua Central Division MP Muzaid Khemis also attended the meeting.
NAC and its partners, including Host Hub Innovation Center and Holistic Actions for Development and Empowerment, are working with Danish partners to promote inclusive youth leadership and establish community youth parliaments.
The initiative is supported by the Danish Network for Local Youth Councils (NAU) and the Danish Youth Council (DUF), with support aimed at strengthening youth leadership and representation in Uganda.
