Students from Muni University, under the African Youth Leadership Forum, have extended career guidance and health services to learners at Mvara Senior Secondary School in Arua City, with a focus on supporting learners with special needs.

The outreach, conducted on August 31, 2026, aimed at providing career guidance and health-related support to learners, while promoting inclusion and community service.

Robert Turyamusiima, Coordinator of the African Youth Leadership Forum, Muni University Chapter, says the initiative is part of the organisation's commitment to nurturing responsible leaders who understand the importance of giving back to vulnerable communities.

He notes that leadership goes beyond preparing individuals for positions of responsibility to also empowering them to make a positive difference in society.

Turyamusiima has appealed to members of the public, organisations and well-wishers to extend support to Mvara Senior Secondary School, which accommodates more than 100 learners with special needs.

Lillian Draru, Head of the Special Needs Education Department at Mvara SS, commended the university students for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely and valuable in addressing some of the learners' needs.

Meanwhile, Atibuni Simon, the Deputy Headteacher in charge of General Duties, says the support will contribute towards addressing existing health gaps, particularly among learners who require specialised attention.

Mvara Senior Secondary School has more than 100 learners with special needs, including those with hearing, visual and physical impairments, many of whom require additional support in accessing appropriate healthcare and other essential services.

The school has called for continued public support to improve the welfare and learning environment of these learners.
