On February 11, 2025, the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet K. Museveni, officially released the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination results at State House Nakasero.

This release is particularly significant as it encompasses the first cohort of learners under the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) and the final cohort under the Old Curriculum's Transitional Examination.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) had initially scheduled the release for February 7, 2025, but postponed it to February 11 due to adjustments in the Minister's official commitments.

A total of 379,748 candidates sat for the UCE examinations between October and November 2024. The results are now accessible to parents, candidates, and well-wishers via SMS by typing "UCE" followed by a space, the full Index Number, and sending it to 6600. For example, for Transitional Candidates with Index Numbers ending in "T" (e.g., U0000/001T), type "UCE U0000/001T" and send to 6600. Schools can also access the results through their portals immediately after the official release.

This year's UCE exams were particularly noteworthy as they marked the inaugural assessment under the new lower secondary curriculum.

To facilitate the transition, students were evaluated using two different sets of exams: one aligned with the new curriculum and another known as the "transition examination."

The release of these results is a significant event for students, parents, and educators, as they play a crucial role in shaping students' academic futures. UNEB's 2024 examination theme, "Embracing Security and Holistic Assessment of Learners in a Dynamic Environment," underscores the board's commitment to adapting to evolving educational standards while ensuring a secure and comprehensive evaluation process.

The Ministry of Education and Sports continues to emphasize the importance of holistic assessment practices that evaluate students' mastery of knowledge and skills, ensuring learners are equipped to apply their education in real-world situations. Hon. Janet Museveni has urged UNEB to provide more training for teachers to better understand and apply this new assessment approach.

The release of the 2024 UCE results marks a significant milestone in Uganda's education sector, showcasing progress, addressing challenges, and reaffirming the commitment to quality education for all.
