Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego as the new Governor of the Bank of Uganda (BoU), marking a significant leadership change at the country’s central bank.

 Atingi-Ego, who has been serving as Deputy Governor since 2020, now takes over the top position, bringing decades of experience in monetary policy and financial regulation.In the same appointment, renowned economist Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba has been named Deputy Governor. 


Nuwagaba, a seasoned financial expert and consultant, is expected to bring his expertise in economic transformation and policy development to the central bank’s leadership team.Atingi-Ego’s promotion follows a period of steady stewardship at BoU, where he played a key role in maintaining economic stability and guiding Uganda’s financial sector through global economic uncertainties. His appointment is anticipated to reinforce monetary policy implementation and financial sector oversight in Uganda.
