Aringa North Member of Parliament Hon. Karim Musa Komoro has started implementing his manifesto commitments with a new education sponsorship programme targeting students from across the constituency.
Komoro has sponsored seven students to pursue higher education, with one beneficiary selected from each of Aringa North’s seven local government units, comprising two town councils and five sub-counties.
The sponsorship opportunity attracted more than 45 applicants, but seven students who met the established selection criteria were selected to benefit.
The beneficiaries have been admitted to four universities in Uganda. Three students have joined the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), two are studying at Kampala University, while one student has been admitted to Muni University and another to Kyambogo University.
The education sponsorship is part of Komoro’s manifesto commitments, with education among the sectors he pledged to support during his tenure as MP.
The programme is expected to provide the selected students with an opportunity to pursue university education while supporting efforts to increase access to higher education among young people in Aringa North.
Komoro is an NRM member who contested the Aringa North parliamentary election as an independent candidate after losing the party primary. He has previously attributed his decision to contest independently to alleged irregularities in the NRM primary election.
The sponsorship programme represents one of the first visible initiatives under his manifesto, with the MP now turning attention to education support for constituents.
Seven beneficiaries, four universities
The sponsored students are distributed as follows:
- Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) – 3 students
- Kampala University – 2 students
- Muni University – 1 student
- Kyambogo University – 1 student
The initiative covers all seven local government units in Aringa North, ensuring that each area has one beneficiary.
Komoro says the education support is intended to contribute to the development of the constituency by investing in the education of its young people.
