ARUA, Uganda — The Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances and Implementation has raised concerns over the quality of infrastructure projects implemented under government commitments in Arua and neighbouring districts.
On the first day of its field oversight visit, the committee, led by its Chairperson, Hon. Francis Zaake Butebi, inspected four bridges whose projects are reported to have a combined value of about UGX 28 billion.
The inspection team said some of the projects, despite being officially declared complete, showed signs that raised questions about the quality and standard of work delivered.“We have so far inspected four bridges in Arua and neighbouring districts under government assurances worth about UGX 28 billion.
What we’ve seen raises serious questions about substandard work on projects declared complete.
We shall expose the facts,” Zaake said. The committee’s visit is aimed at assessing whether government commitments have been properly implemented and whether taxpayers are receiving value for money from completed projects.
The concerns come as Uganda steps up its fight against corruption through the
“No Sleep, No Corruption”
campaign spearheaded by the Inspectorate of Government and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
The committee is expected to continue with its field inspections and document its findings before making recommendations on the projects under scrutiny.
