Former Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea Woman MP, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, has been appointed as an ordinary member of Parliament's Government Assurances Committee, which will be chaired by National Unity Platform MP Hon. Francis Zaake.

The committee appointments were announced on Tuesday as Parliament constituted its sectoral committees to begin work in the new legislative term.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Zaake said the appointment was a reminder that leadership positions are temporary and called for humility in public service.

"Life comes full circle. It is ironic that the person who once made my work in Parliament difficult as Speaker is now serving on a committee I chair," Zaake said.

He added that he welcomed Among to the committee, emphasizing that its role is to ensure government fulfills its commitments to citizens rather than engage in political confrontations.

Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze also weighed in, saying the appointments demonstrate the importance of treating colleagues with respect regardless of the positions they hold.

She remarked that, as an ordinary committee member, the former Speaker would now follow the same parliamentary procedures as other members.

The Government Assurances Committee is one of Parliament's key accountability committees, tasked with overseeing the implementation of government pledges and ensuring commitments made by the Executive are fulfilled.
