ARUA CITY — Arua City Lord Mayor Hon. Alionzi Lawrence Dangote has called on the Government to prioritize infrastructure development in the region as construction of the Muni University Teaching and Research Hospital gets underway.
The Mayor made the appeal on Friday morning while attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the new hospital at Muni University alongside Vice President H.E. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo, university officials, Arua City leaders and other West Nile leaders.
The planned teaching and research hospital is expected to help address the shortage of specialized medical personnel, expand access to advanced healthcare services and strengthen medical training and research in West Nile.
During the ceremony, Mayor Alionzi appealed to Government to improve the Nebbi–Arua Road and tarmac the roads connecting to Lia and Odramachaku, saying improved infrastructure is critical to unlocking Arua’s economic potential.
He described Arua as Uganda’s second-busiest and second-most populated city after Kampala, with a highly active population and a strategic role as the economic heartbeat of West Nile.
The Mayor also urged residents to take advantage of the opportunities provided by Muni University to drive education, innovation and economic transformation across the region.
He said the combination of improved healthcare, education and infrastructure would be key to positioning Arua and West Nile for greater economic growth.
