Arua City, May 27, 2025 – The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has officially launched the mass National ID renewal exercise in Arua City today, with the program expected to run until November 2025.

The exercise, which is being conducted at all NIRA offices countrywide, aims to update and renew expired National Identity Cards (IDs) in preparation for upcoming national processes and services that require valid identification.

NIRA has emphasized that the National ID renewal is free of charge, while those seeking replacements for lost or misplaced IDs will be required to pay a fee of 50,000 Ugandan shillings.

“All expired IDs will cease to be valid by August 12, 2025,” NIRA stated, urging Ugandans to participate in the renewal exercise promptly to avoid service interruptions.

To renew a National ID, individuals are required to present:

Their original, expired, damaged National ID or a photocopy;

An LC1 letter or a copy of their passport.

The renewal drive is part of a nationwide effort to update citizen data and enhance service delivery and security.

Residents of Arua and surrounding areas are encouraged to visit the nearest NIRA office to complete their renewal process before the November deadline.
