Namugongo, Uganda – May 21, 2025MTN Uganda has extended financial support worth UGX 10 million to the Northern Uganda Cluster Dioceses to aid preparations for the upcoming Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, set to take place on June 3 at Namugongo.The contribution was officially handed over to Rt. Rev. Charles Collins Andaku, the Bishop of Madi-West Nile Diocese, who received it on behalf of the six dioceses comprising the Northern Uganda Cluster. These include the Dioceses of Northern Uganda, Kitgum, West Lango, Lango, Nebbi, and Madi-West Nile.Speaking during the handover, Bishop Andaku expressed gratitude to MTN Uganda for the generous support, noting that the donation would go a long way in facilitating the participation and logistical arrangements for pilgrims from the northern region.“We are deeply thankful to MTN Uganda for this timely support. It will greatly help our dioceses prepare adequately for this year’s Martyrs Day celebrations, where we are honored to lead the Church of Uganda service,” Bishop Andaku stated.Representatives from MTN Uganda reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting faith-based and community-driven initiatives across the country, emphasizing the importance of unity and spiritual heritage symbolized by the annual pilgrimage.Uganda Martyrs Day is one of the most significant religious events in the country, drawing millions of pilgrims from across Uganda and beyond to commemorate the lives of 45 Christian converts who were executed for their faith between 1885 and 1887.This year’s celebration holds special significance for the Northern Uganda Cluster Dioceses, who have been selected to lead the Anglican Church's commemoration activities.
