ACDF Members Undergo Induction Training to Strengthen Urban Development Efforts

Arua City, Uganda – Newly elected members of the Arua City Development Forum (ACDF), alongside various stakeholders, have commenced a three-day orientation and induction training aimed at bolstering their capacity in driving urban development. 

The training, held at Desert Breeze Hotel, is being facilitated with support from VNG International.

The program kicked off on Wednesday and is set to conclude on Friday. It is being spearheaded by officials from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development. 

Participants are being taken through a comprehensive overview of City Development Forums (CDFs) and Municipal Development Forums (MDFs) in Uganda, the guidelines for the formation of Thematic Working Groups, as well as tools and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials vital for effective Urban Forum operations.

Among those attending is the former ACDF President, Draecabo Caesar, whose continued involvement underscores the forum's growing importance.Stephen Bwogere, the Social Development Specialist and National Urban Forums Coordinator, emphasized the value of civic responsibility. "This world needs people who are voluntarily fighting for development. Grab any opportunity you see in terms of gathering to preach the CDF/MDF doctrine," he told participants.

David Kyasanku, the Arua City Clerk, highlighted the critical role ACDF members play in bridging the gap between the city authorities and the populace. "It has taken time for people to appreciate the roles of MDFs and CDFs. Your role is to augment what we do; everybody has his/her own expectations, and we shall get them through you—the ACDF members," Kyasanku said.Echoing the need for community mobilization, Arua City Mayor Wadri Sam Nyakua called on the ACDF members to be ambassadors for change. "We want to ask you ACDF members to join us in mobilizing the citizens in the fight against poverty. 

People have resources, but our biggest problem is in the head—mindset! Let us mobilize our people to change their mindset so that they can alleviate poverty," the Mayor urged.The induction is part of a broader initiative to strengthen urban governance and citizen participation in local development processes across Uganda.
