Luzira, Uganda – April 30, 2025 — The National Unity Platform (NUP) is grappling with a fresh wave of frustration following the continued detention of Asega Habibu Jogoo, the party’s head of mobilisation for Northern Uganda. Jogoo was returned to Luzira Prison earlier today after a magistrate declined to hear his bail application, instead remanding him until May 8.
Jogoo, a prominent political mobiliser and influential grassroots figure within NUP, has faced increasing pressure from authorities in recent months. His latest detention has sparked concern among party supporters and human rights advocates, who view the move as part of a broader crackdown on opposition voices.
"He is being punished for his role in empowering the youth and speaking out against injustices in Northern Uganda," said a NUP spokesperson, calling for immediate and unconditional release.

The reasons for Jogoo’s initial arrest have not been made public, and the delay in his bail hearing has raised eyebrows about the transparency of the judicial process. Supporters gathered outside court premises earlier today, demanding justice and vowing to maintain pressure on the authorities.
NUP leadership has condemned the continued incarceration of Jogoo, calling it "politically motivated" and an attempt to intimidate opposition actors ahead of the 2026 general elections.
As the country watches closely, all eyes are now on the May 8 court date, when Jogoo is expected to reappear in court — a hearing that could determine whether he regains his freedom or remains behind bars.
