Soroti, Uganda – April 30, 2025 — Soroti West Member of Parliament Jonathan Ebwalu has confirmed that Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi will contest in the 2026 presidential elections.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday evening, Ebwalu disclosed that Mafabi’s campaign team is set to pick nomination forms from the Electoral Commission headquarters on Wednesday morning, marking the official start of the veteran lawmaker’s presidential bid.

“Mafabi is offering himself to lead this country towards economic justice, accountable leadership, and inclusive governance,” said Ebwalu. “We believe he has the experience and the integrity needed to steer Uganda into a new era.”

Mafabi, a seasoned politician and long-serving opposition figure, is currently the Secretary General of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). His entry into the presidential race is expected to shake up the political landscape ahead of the 2026 general elections.

While Mafabi himself has not yet made a public statement, sources within his camp suggest that a formal announcement and manifesto launch are expected in the coming weeks.

This development adds to an already dynamic and competitive field, as more candidates prepare to challenge President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986.

Who else do you think might join the presidential race?
