The final whistles at St Mary's Kitende base show Uganda thrilling wallop their loyal neighbor Tanzania 3:0 and qualifying on 4:0 aggregate as the away affair for Uganda in Dar El Salam ended 1:0. Uganda was able to secure its first goal at the 16th minute through a penalty foul on Rogers Mato who was brought down in the penalty area hence the penalty goal conversion coming in From Moses Waiswa. The second half would later see two more goals to extend the lead with the second one coming at the 54th minute when Richard Basangwa doubles the lead from a diving header to score from a well taken Moses Waiswa's free kick. With more advancements in the game, the 75th minute goal from Rogers Mato would later humble Tanzania to settle the difference to be at 3:0 in favor of Uganda at the end of the fulltime.

Uganda Cranes Player Celebrate The First Goal

With the above result, Uganda now has secured a slot among the 18 teams set to compete at the 7th edition of the TotalEnergies CHAN 2022 Championships to be held in Algeria between 8 and 31 January 2023. 

It should be noted that Originally CAF had scheduled the Tournament to be held from 10 July to 1 August 2022, however CAF rescheduled the tournament to January 2023 following an announcement at an executive committee meeting held on 10 September 2020 via video conferencing, citing the postponement of the 2020 African Nations Championship to 2021 and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa as well as the already-scheduled 2022 FIFA World Cup in November–December 2022. 

This qualification now puts to record the 8th times of participation of The Uganda Cranes at the prestigious CHAN tournament in which the Cranes have featured at the Africa Cup of Nations on seven occasions (1962, 1968, 1974, 1976, 1978, 2017, 2019 and 2022). The 1978 edition under the president Iddi Amin regime remains their best tournament, having reached the finals but lost 2-0 to hosts Ghana.
