Born and bred in Maracha a small town in West Nile, a colossus of a forward was never to back down from the football scene provided he set foot on the gas. A well built young man who possesses power, technique and determination, the forward was not ready to let off from his set goal of playing in the big time. From St. Mary’s Kitende to Vipers SC, Leku found his way up the ladders and made his senior debut in 2015 at a young age with Vipers SC and the team managed to clinch the Uganda Cup in 2016. A small glimpse of success. In his three year stay at the Kitende based club, Leku was deemed surplus to the team and was loaned out to several teams including stints at Onduparaka FC and Express FC who will forever remember Leku for the goal he scored that saved them from relegation in 2018. The young lad finally got a big money move to join Jwaneng Galaxy FC in the top league of Botswana. After a spell in the southern part of Africa that also included a loan to fellow Botswana club Extension Gunners, Leku returned home and signed with Proline FC in the 2019/202 season. And on October 1st, Leku signed for Arua Hill SC a newly rebranded team that was in the second tier of Ugandan football ie the Startimes FUFA Big League.

At that time, the club was seeking direct promotion to the Uganda Premier League and a daunting task ahead for coach Hussein Mbalangu loomed. Various signings were made including legendary Ceaser Okhuti, Brian Ade, Rashid Agau, Dan Birikwalira, Mike Kawooya, Paddy Muhumuza and others. Leku joined the fray and the campaign was set to roll. The team embarked on a winning streak as a combined attack of Leku and Ceaser Okhuti alongside young Rashid Kawawa saw Arua Hill run riot and finish the season unbeaten in the big league and set the archives dancing for a golden generation. With plenty of game time, Alfred Leku netted 5 goals in the big league in 12 games played and saw the club gain promotion to the cream of Ugandan football.

A STORY TO TELL!

The startimes Uganda Premier League would start off with a new look Arua Hill facing defending champions Express FC a team he knew well. Leku, already an established figure at the club walked right into Livingstone Mbabazi’s starting eleven and provided two assists in a brilliant two goal win at Wankulukuku. The story had just began. His first goal in the UPL however came in his third appearance for Arua Hill as he scored a consolation goal against Mbarara City at Kakyeka stadium to get off the mark. The man was off his heels and nothing could hold back as URA visited Barifa Stadium, Alfred Leku completed a brilliant comeback from two goals down in the second half as he netted his second goal of the campaign in the 3-2 win against URA and got himself sent off with a second booking in the game but he had already done the damage.

Missing two games against Gadaffi and KCCA, Leku returned to the team and his third goal came against Busoga United as Arua Hill got back to winning ways on the back of two losses. Yet again in the next game, Leku bagged his fourth against Tooro United early in the second minute an his fifth goal came in the home draw to SC Villa. At that time, Alfred Leku was on fire having scored five goals in just eight appearances for Arua Hill SC already.Leku continued his fine form as he netted against Wakiso Giants to mark his sixth goal in ten games and Leku scored one of the most precious goals as his former pay masters Vipers SC visited Barifa Stadium. He netted the only goal of the game to give Arua Hill a win. Ending the first half of the season with seven goals, Leku had become a force to reckon with. The start to the second half of the season was on and Leku continued to flourish as he bagged another goal against Wakiso Giants but little did he know that a dry spell was imminent.

Leku went on to play six consecutive games without registering a goal to his name but finally broke his duck against visiting Busoga United. He netted a brace to end his longest ever goal drought of the season and take his tally to ten goals for the season with four games left to play. With all his goals coming in vital games, Leku has proved an assest under Mbabazi and has flourished to new heights among the top. We reckon he will grab a couple more goals before the campaign comes to a close and it is just the beginning of his whole story.
